SEMEN SIRES
Westvale Breeding Objectives
- To produce premium wools at a sustainable level
- Ideally 17.8 micron. Grown ewes cutting 4.5kg of spinners type at 87mm in length, 43 newtons and a reproduction rate of 95% with a high carcass value. This would be very viable.
- Within this basic perimeter there are other breeding values which need close attention. Breeding soundness which include feet, body size and wool type.
- Premiums are paid for wools that meet these specifications. Italian processors prefer fine crimping wools with high tensile strength, 85mm's in length, as well as being ASF3.
- Using this basic criteria we can produce wool for the market at a profitable level.
- Comfort factor and softness are two very important components for the wool industry push to expand cloth sales, producing fabrics that are itch free, natural and stylish.
- Coverage is becoming premium driven. Long bellies and points gives additional length in skirting lines and lower CV of length.
